Cambridge, England, 17 February 2010: Isentropic Ltd is delighted to announce that it has been selected as one of 20 UK companies to join the Clean and Cool Mission 2010 to Silicon Valley from 20-26 February.
The company will be promoting its revolutionary pumped heat electrical energy storage (PHES) technology, which it describes as the key to the widespread use of energy from renewable sources.
"PHES has the potential to dominate the large-scale electrical storage market," explains Jonathan Howes, Isentropic's Technical Director. "It provides a cost-effective solution to the intermittency problems of renewable energy sources. Moreover, it has no geographical constraints, is compact, can demonstrate a round trip efficiency of 72% to 80% and has the lowest costs of any storage technology."
Its benefit is the ability to make better use of existing generating capacity to cope with demand at peak times. By being able to store the excess capacity at night and feed it into the grid during the day, rather than switching on inefficient generating plants as happens at present, it is possible to use the stored excess to meet the periods of peak demand.
Isentropic has demonstrated that it has solved complex technical challenges and is now working towards the development of a utility-scale demonstration plant.
Adds Howes: "The Clean and Cool mission is an excellent opportunity not only to profile our own technology, but also to learn how others are responding to the fast-growing, cleantech market."
